*The Pact is a FULL-LENGTH
*STANDALONE (not part of a series, no cliffhanger, fully wrapped-up novel)
*”FRIENDS-TO-LOVERS” CONTEMPORARY ADULT ROMANCE
It all started with a pinky swear…
Linden McGregor is tall, rugged, and gunslinger handsome; a helicopter pilot with a Scottish brogue and charm to spare. He’s also one of Stephanie Robson’s best friends and has fit into that box for as long as she’s known him.
Beautiful, funny and an ambitious businesswoman (with one hell of an ass), Stephanie Robson is one of Linden McGregor’s best friends and has fit into that box for as long as he’s known her.
But some relationships can’t be boxed, can’t be classified, can’t be tamed.
Back in their mid-twenties and tired of the competitive hit-or-miss dating scene of San Francisco, Steph and Linden made a pact to marry each other if neither one of them were in a serious relationship by the time they hit thirty.
It sounded like fun and games at the time but as the years to thirty tick past and lovers come and go out of their lives, the pact becomes larger than life.
Sex is inevitable. Friendships are tested. Hearts are on the line.
The pact is about to change everything.
Note: due to the dirty talk and sexy times, The Pact is not meant for anyone under the age of 18. All characters in THE PACT are in their thirties, therefore this is NOT a new adult book…even though love can mess you up at any age.
We have the Three Amigos here. In the center is Stephanie, and the two surrounding her is Linden and James. She met both of them when she was 21 when she was trying to get a job at the bar. James interviewed her and hired her. Linden was working there as well and befriended her when her relationship with James went south. But James and she were able to become friends after all and it was the three of them, always hanging around. The book opens on Steph’s 25th birthday, she’s had a bad date. She is at the bar with Linden and James. Linden proposes that by the time they are 30 if neither is in a relationship they’ll decide to get married. They pinky swear and that’s how all this starts. This book spans the course of 6 years. Most years are only a chapter or two long, most of the book dedicated to the last year. I will tell you that you get both Steph’s and Linden’s POV. It is so wonderful to get into the head of the character. Especially one like Linden. I was really taken with him. To be honest, I’d put him up there in the top 5 of all book boyfriends. This man is shameless. I will say that and he has a VERY naughty mouth. And something else interesting about this book. The sex scenes were graphic, but he talked dirty DURING them, like people do. That’s not normally something you read. Most of the time, the dirty talking is done before hand as in “I’m going to x, y. and z.” But this guy was dirty talking the whole time. I thought it would be distracting, but it wasn’t. It actually added to the scene. I will say that their love story was inevitable. It was natural and it was beautiful. I positively LOVE this book. This book will go into my Bash Books shelf. You know that shelf of books you badger (or bash) your friends into reading….so yeah. It’s great.
Karina Halle wrote a wonderful book. She claims at the end that this book wasn’t supposed to exist. That it was just something that came to her and she wrote it whilst on vacation. (some vacation, eh?) She says she writes a different type of book all together. I don’t know. I’ve never read any of her work before. BUT I will say this, if this is an example of her writing style and her fluidity, I will probably bankrupt myself buying all her books and reading them and reviewing them and bashing people with them. As a matter of fact, I will put this on my “Real Book” shelves. It’s that good. Would I recommend this book? I think this review is self-evident of that. BUT I would make 100% certain that the reader understood that it is mature. There is VERY mature language and dirty talkin’ going on.
