The Boys Club – Angie Martin

Boys Club

This book was purchased by me. All thoughts are 100% my own.

Growing up a homeless juvenile delinquent left its mark on Gabriel Logan. He lived a throwaway existence until a former FBI agent recruited him for a fringe organization for boys like him, ones who could operate outside the law for the sake of justice. As an adult, he sets an example for others and is slated to take over the group, until his work results in the murder of his pregnant wife.

Going through the motions of everyday life, Logan does only what’s required of him with one goal in mind: kill Hugh Langston, the man responsible for his wife’s death. When he’s handed the opportunity to bring Langston down, he jumps at the chance, but the job will challenge him more than anything in the past. Not only does he have to save Langston’s daughter from her father’s hit list, but the job seems to have come to him a little to easily. Logan must find a way not only to rescue the one woman who can take down his biggest enemy, but also look into the men he trusts most to discover which one of them is betraying The Boys Club.

My Thoughts

We’re introduced to Gabe Logan, petty and not so great thief. He is a juvenile and he was busted trying to break into a house. He was taken in by Schaffer, a man who used to be FBI. Now he wanted to create a specialized group who would do the things that were just outside of the law to get the job done. Gabe was his first recruit. We then meet, Sara Langston, who was having to marry a man she liked but didn’t love simply because it was what her father wanted. Her father was a very powerful man who was used to getting his way. But something wasn’t right with his books and she couldn’t get any help trying to figure out why his money was making the loops it was. Gabe was forced to kidnap Sara to save her life. He was gruff and didn’t want involvement. His wife’s death was still too painful for him. But Sara’s gentle ways worked their way under his skin. But something wasn’t right about this mission. Gabe was attracted to Sara from the start but he was really good at keeping it all to himself. She was scared of him because…well, he DID kidnap her…but she could tell that though he was gruff and to the point, he was honest and had never done anything but respect her and treated he with kindness. Then one night everything went wrong at the safe house and they had to go on the run.

I’ll be honest, it was a little slow to start out, but when it picked up, oh holy cow did it pick up. There’s one scene were Gabe is tied to a chair and then….well, yeah, you’ll have to read it. I was biting my nails! I had to skip to then end to assure myself that she hadn’t just committed a GRRM. (LURVE his work btw, so don’t think I’m dissing on him!) BUT I will tell you that there is a happily ever after, so no worries. There was definite chemistry between these two. So much so that when the intimacy occurred it went from taking off shirts to pillow talk afterward with no in between. Now I’m not complaining because explicit scenes aren’t necessary for a book to be good or not. Just anymore when you have such heat between two characters, anymore the intimacy is very graphic and telling. There are recalls in thoughts of it, but it still isn’t graphic or detailed. In the world of tv this would a mild soap opera at most.

Ms. Martin really pulled the heart-strings for Gabe. That is a man who suffered his entire life and the only constant, has been Mr. Schaffer. It’s no wonder he lived and breathed the Boys Club. And though Sara was privileged she had humble beginnings and never forgot them. And Ms. Martin was able to create that character that didn’t make you roll your eyes at her saccharin sweetness. And I will tell you, this woman can write some suspense. I have nubbins for nails now thanks to this book! Would I recommend this book. If the person likes a suspenseful love story with a very alpha, protective guy and a gal who knows when to give and when to push, then heck yeah! And I don’t feel bad lending this to any adult to read. There’s really no warning….well except maybe that chair scene! That was BRUTAL!
