I was given an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts are 100% my own.
I didn’t mean to hurt anyone, especially him…
I was living the dream. I had a great career as a romance author, a successful boyfriend, and am the daughter to a New York power couple. With my standing, my family groomed me to be perfect. Despite having it all, something was still missing.
In an attempt to break away from my privileged, suffocating life, I was in pursuit of finding my own path to happiness. After my literary agent gave me a risky writing assignment, I set out to write a best-seller that took me completely out of my comfort zone and into the arms of another man. He was only supposed to be a research toy, falling in love wasn’t a part of the plan.
As I become tangled into a huge web of lies, I quickly find out that I have a life changing decision to make. Do I choose to continue living a life of comfort, stability, and misery or do I take a chance on the unknown to preserve my happiness?
We meet Arianna. The daughter of an Italian wine mogul and an African American fashion designer. She’s unwillingly engaged to Julius, a banker with his father’s firm. They are both unwillingly engaged to one another. They were going to lose their inheritances if they didn’t marry one another. Unfortunately, they couldn’t stand one another. Arianna is a constant disappointment to her parents. She’s not ambitious enough for her father and she’s not skinny enough for her mother. So when she was approached by her literary agent to write erotica instead of her normal romances, she’s lost. She doesn’t have much in the way of erotic experience and she’s pretty bashful when it comes to men. So as all agents do, she inspires Arianna to step out of her comfort zone and suggests she finds a muse. Arianna’s friend Gia (love her btw!) is opposite of Arianna as can be. She’s sexually secure in herself, she’s bold and she’s all about helping Arianna find her muse. And as she’s sitting at a bookstore’s coffee shop, she finds him standing across the street, being everything a woman would dream about. And so her story begins…
Zane owns the catering establishment across the street from coffee shop/book store. And he risks a couple of chance meetings with her, but in her fear, she calls herself Sienna. As Sienna, she can be true to herself…and because of this freedom she finds her true voice.
I’ll be honest, I didn’t like Arianna at first. She was a weak character. She wasn’t poorly written, she was just weak. Which was apparent because no one showed her any respect, except for her friend Gia. Speaking of Gia, she was outrageous! I don’t know if I could have kept my blood out of my face if she were my friend and I’m not easily embarrassed or shocked. I couldn’t stand her parents or Julius. I loved Zane from the start. I find him to be the solid character, the sympathetic character. And that feeling remains for the entirety of the book. Zane was hot. He was sexy and he was passionate and sure of himself and his abilities. And boy howdy…did he have abilities.
This is the first book I’d read by Ms. Bright. And I’ve been told that we’re going to hear Zane’s story. To be honest, I can’t wait. I want to see his perspective on things. Because of the nature of the book about an author writing an erotic story based on her true experiences, I’m curious if there are autobiographical notes in this story as well. Holy cow is all I’m sayin’. mmmmkay! This book is NOT for those seeking sweet romance. It is not for those seeking closure and immediate HEA. These things aren’t happening in this book. Maybe in the next one. I don’t know. What I can say is this. When the sex is hot, it’s napalm hot. Revenge is sweet. And when this woman comes into her own, holy cow does she ever! Would I recommend this book? Yeah I would. I would make sure that the person was ok with the aforementioned issues. If they are alright with it, then of course I would recommend it.
