Blyssful Lies (The Blyss Trilogy book 2) – J.C. Cliff

blyssful lies

I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts are 100% my own. Read my review of Blyss (The Blyss Trilogy book 1) here.

Blyss is part of a carefully orchestrated, organized game, and is driven by much bigger and darker forces.
A very Complex and original plot!
Two sexy, ruthless men…one innocent female caught in the middle.
Sexual tension, danger and intrigue will keep you on your toes!

Learning how to survive in her new world, Julianna has no choice but to play “The game of Life.” Except it’s Nick’s game, and his rules apply. Captivity, drugs, and submission are the cards that are dealt, and it’s a losing game.

Biding her time as she waits for her rescuers, it’s far from smooth sailing, because all too quickly the rules abruptly change as Nick takes matters into his own hands…

As the drama unfolds, and hesitating to interfere, Travis has everything to lose should he decide to step in, including his life. It’s opposition at its finest – freedom versus control as Nick and Julianna face the ultimate battle of wills.

While Travis has the uncanny ability to manipulate her with a single touch, Nick struggles to conquer her body, mind, and soul.

It’s every man for themselves as each have their own secret agenda, including Julianna, whose plan is simple: survive.

The Blyss Trilogy: books must be read in order
Blyss: book 1
Blyssful Lies: book 2
Blyssfully Undone: book 3

My Thoughts

We’re back in the madhouse. Not really. We’re back in the world of Nick, Travis, and Julianna. Nick still wants Jules, Travis still wants Jules, Jules just want to get free. And thankfully she’s able to do that…kind of in this particular book. We learn a lot more about Travis in this book too. But I’m still really curious about him. Something doesn’t scream organized crime dude about him.

Other than tell you that the book is good. The pace is faster, yet it’s more character driven than Blyss was. We actually get three full points of view in this story. We have Nick, and he really does fancy himself to be a good man. A man who is madly in love with a woman he met seven years before. He’s contrite when he should be and he’s ruthless when crossed, but he still fancies himself to be the right man for the job. We have Travis, who sees himself as doing what’s right even if it isn’t by the right methods. And we REALLY learn a lot about him, but still so much remains to be seen, because I have a feeling that we’re just scratching below the surface of him. (Still waters and all that jazz…) And finally we have Julianna. She’s one heckuva survivor. And when she’s not in survivor mode, she’s carefree and loving and playful and generally happy. I still think she’s pretty awesome that she can kick major butt when she needs to though. One thing that will drive me batty is the ending. Not that it’s bad, it isn’t. I will just have to wait before I can read the next book, and with how this ends, it has me on the edge of my seat.

Ms. Cliff has this criminal world that feels real. Part of it might be because I recognize some of the places she’s talked about. In this book, we’re taking to Charleston, SC and I used to live there for a time, so it makes it feel more “real” to me. Though, truly, I know absolutely NOTHING about organized crime. And her web is weaving tighter and tighter, and though we know poo is about to hit the fan, we’re glued down for the ride because we CAN’T. STOP. READING.
