Now available: Strong Enough, the first book in the Tall, Dark, and Dangerous trilogy by M. Leighton! A dark and sexy read in the style of the bestselling Bad Boys novels.
How would I describe myself? Well, I’m Muse Harper. I’m a twenty-something painter who loves red wine, quirky movies, and men with a fatal flaw. But that was before I met Jasper King. He became my fatal flaw. Eight months ago, I had a choice to make—abandon everything I’ve ever known to protect my family, or stay and risk someone getting hurt. I chose the former. My plan was working just fine until I found out my father had gone missing.
That’s when I met Jasper. A bounty hunter with the eyes of a tiger and the nose of a bloodhound, he was supposed to help me find my father. What I didn’t know was that meeting him was no accident. Hunting people isn’t all that Jasper does. And helping me was only part of his plan. I just wish I’d found out sooner, before my heart got involved. But even then, I don’t know if I’d have done things differently.
Now, I have another choice to make—trust the man that I’m falling in love with and hope that he’ll do the right thing, or run as far away from him as I can get. And is he strong enough to let her?
***I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts are 100% my own.***
We meet Muse at her job in a clothing shop. She’s nervous because she’s just hired a bounty hunter to find her father. What she doesn’t expect is the tawny eyed man named Jasper who’s taken her job on. But unfortunately for Muse, Jasper isn’t all he’s let himself on to be, and his secrets will affect her in ways neither of them could even imagine.
I enjoyed the book. Jasper is a typical brooding, super-alpha male. But how he got there was brutal and gut wrenching. His past makes me cringe and cry. Muse is a typical nurturing, loving, happy person. But her ability to handle any situation handed to her is testament to her strength of character and her backbone. There’s not much interaction with those outside of those two characters, but we are introduced to a few. I know that some of them have their own book in this series. Others, like Gerard, I’m not so sure is all he says he is either. But we’ll wait to see how the overarching story plays out. Which I’m sure will play out over the course of the next books.
Ms. Leighton had my guts in the first chapter. She had my heart in chapter twenty-six. I won’t tell you what happens in either of those chapters. I’ll leave that to you to figure out. Both chapters though, deal with Jasper’s past, one in the past and the other the only remaining part of his past making itself known. I can’t say I was surprised by any of the developments that happened in the book, but I am sure that overall, I’ll find some things quite shocking, once all the books are out. So question is, would I recommend this book? Yes, I would. It is definitely one for the adults because it’s pretty steamy!
