The calm before the storm…
I lived in the quiet stillness.
I felt the wind rustle, warning me, telling me to get out of its path.
But I didn’t.
I never stood a chance.
A series of weather and road mishaps leaves me trapped in the middle of a blizzard with a complete stranger. In the back of a pickup truck. For forty-eight freakin’ hours.
A stranger with long hair, tattoos, and rippling with muscle.
A stranger with an insanely sexy voice and a wicked smile that turned my insides to jelly.
A stranger who held me in his arms, calmed me, and then set a fire in me that I couldn’t put out.
Storm lives up to his name. Beautiful. Dangerously inviting. Tumultuous. Dark. A clash of hot and cold.
He’s used to getting everything he wants.
And now he wants me.
Some people chase storms for the beautiful thrill. What happens when the storm chases you?
We meet up with Evelyn as she’s heading to a meeting for work, trying to follow directions on her GPS when a snow storm derails her, thankfully, Storm Valentine, lead guitarist for Ashes and Embers is on his way up that very mountain. He saves her, only to get stuck himself, and they had to tuff it out in his truck for two days. And neither of them would come from this weekend unscathed.
She has been in a relationship for twelve years. He never wanted another relationship again. But they found themselves drawn to one another.
This is the first story in the Ashes and Embers series. I had already read Lukas, but thought I’d come back and read the first book. I didn’t feel a connection with either Evie or Storm. But then I had a deep connection with Lukas and Ivy. That isn’t to say that this book isn’t well done, it just didn’t have that connection with me that the other did. We did get to meet the other members of the band, including Lukas and Ivy. (The concert scene was really interesting being seen from Evie’s POV!) And though I’m certain it’ll make me ball, I’ll probably get and read Vandal’s story soon. But I’m pretty certain, I’ll bawl. Just sayin’….
Ms. Cole is creating this world were the men are absolutely dedicated. And by that I do mean absolutely. At least as far as Lukas and Storm are concerned, I cannot speak for the others, but wow. I really love that about her books that I’ve read so far. And this book does involve a love triangle between Evie, her boyfriend, and Storm, but really…there’s no real triangle here. It’s just that life is complicated and there aren’t any clear-cut lines and sometimes the best way out of a sticky situation isn’t always clean or easy. So I really appreciate that realness. So would I recommend this book to others? I would, because this band of men and family are very interesting and Ms. Cole does a really good job of building their world.
My first novel in the Ashes & Embers series, Storm, published in September of 2014 and book 2, Vandal, published in February 2015. Lukas is planned as book 3 coming in July 2015. I have nine books slated for this series, and several standalone novels planned for 2015 and 2016.
