The Piano Man Project – Kat French

Finding love isn’t always black and white…

You: kind, piano-playing sex god
Me: hopelessly romantic charity shop manager

Honeysuckle Jones has a problem, and her best friends Nell and Tash are on a mission to help her solve it. She needs a man – a caring, intelligent, funny man. But most importantly, a man who’s good with his hands…

Luckily Honey’s new neighbour – moody, antisocial ex-chef Hal – fails on almost every count. Even though the chemistry between them is electric, he’s obviously wrong for her in every way.

But when Honey discovers the devastating reason for his moods she decides to give him another chance. And discovers that the best songs aren’t always in tune…

A hilarious, feel-good, sexy romantic comedy.

Honeysuckle Jones is a uniquely named charity shop manager who’s best friends are polar opposites and her co-workers are almost identical. She approaches life with a go-with-the-flow personality, and it’s suited her thus far. And when her friends discovered that she’s never experienced the big one, they decided that they were going to find the perfect guy for her.

Benedict Hallum hated people. He hated laughter. He hated people who laughed most of all. He moved across the lobby from Honey, and her laughter drove him to drink more than he already did. He was bitter at the turn life had taken and he didn’t want anyone to show him that life could be sweet, especially the do-good girl next door. But against his will, he looked forward to her chats through his door.

Their story is complicated and fraught with the push and pull of people who love and don’t want to love and don’t feel they deserve the love that’s been given them. All interspersed with the saving of the old folks home where Honey’s co-workers lived.

I will say that this is one of the better books I’d read in a little while. The characters are fleshed out and real feeling. You could feel the anger drip from the book when you’re in Hal’s moments and you could feel the never-ending hope that seems to permeate the air around Honey constantly. And the side characters are NOT to be missed. All of them, even the annoying Christopher are such wonderful characters and I couldn’t pick my favourite if I wanted.

Ms. French has written an amazing book. This is the first of her books, I’d ever read and I’ll be certain to check out her other books because she’s simply skilled with words. The world she created around these dynamic, larger-than-life characters felt real. It felt as though I could walk through the shop or through their homes and knew where I was. Truly it was such a great book. I couldn’t recommend it enough. I feel like I’ve met my best friends.
