Cocky Bastard – Vi Keeland and Penelope Ward

He was someone who belonged in my wildest fantasies instead of a rest stop in the middle of Nebraska.

A sexy, cocky, Australian named Chance was the last person I expected to run into on my cross-country drive.

When my car broke down, we made a deal. Next thing I knew, we were traveling together, spending sexually-tense nights in hotels and taking unplanned detours.

My ordinary road trip turned into the adventure of a lifetime. It was all fun and games until things got intense.

I wanted him, but Chance wouldn’t make a move. I thought he wanted me too, but something was holding him back.

I wasn’t supposed to fall for the cocky bastard, especially when I knew we’d be going our separate ways.

All good things must come to an end, right?

Except our ending was one I didn’t see coming.

We meet Aubrey as she’s trekking from Chicago to California. She’s being hounded by her cheating ex and she just wants to make it there and do…something. At a rest stop she meets this Aussie traveler headed to Cali as well. And when his motorcycle doesn’t start and he changes her tire, she and he take an 8 day journey that will change both of them forever.

Chance was everything Aubrey wasn’t. He was a fly by the seat of his pants kind of guy, she was the over planner. He taught her how to loosen up and live life, she gave him a moment to live his. This story was beautiful, even if the snarky exchanges gave me gigglesnorts. I didn’t see his story coming. It threw me for a complete and utter loop, but wow…I don’t even know how to classify this..first time romance, second chance romance, star-crossed lovers, enemies-to-friends-to-lovers…gah, who  knows.

Other than something that bothered me in the beginning (it’s completely MY hang-up, but yeah, I ended up obsessing on it for a little bit), it was a really good story. For a first time reader of either of these authors, I’d say this is a really good indication of things to come.

Ms. Keeland and Ward really do a wonderful job of writing these two lovers. I can’t say that I was completely engrossed in their story, BUT I did finish it in around 4 hours of non-stop reading. IT really was good. So would I recommend this book to anyone? Yeah, I would. It’s definitely worthy of a read.
