***I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts are 100% my own.***
This is the fourth book in the Wild Sparks Series. Hadley is dealing with the aftermath of the last book. Her life fell apart the day she caught him. And she’s trying so hard to pick up the pieces in this book. I’ll be flat honest. I don’t like Hadley. I liked her in Keys to Jericho, but haven’t liked her in her own story. I do NOT like Finn Wilder, and though he’s a strong presence in this particular book, he’s not really in it much. And I *bleeping* hate Morgan. I’m still majorly loving Dash (you met him in Keys to Jericho) and Greg Rodwell. Though, I might not like Hadley, my heart shatters for her. I’ll also be honest and say that I did skip reading some parts of this book. It has nothing to do with horrible writing or being slow paced, but rather, Ms. Alexander’s ability to climb into the depths of depression and be able to articulate how desolate and grey everything is. Having been there myself once upon a time, it was really hard to read it. It was too much like looking in a mirror.
This is a long series, with the hint that there could be a fifth book. Do not think that this is a romance…though that factors heavily into the storyline. This is more of a story of a woman’s journey into finding who she really is to herself, rather than who she needs to be to everyone else. If you look at it from strictly a romance perspective, you’re going to get mighty frustrated with this series and with this book in particular. But don’t. This woman has been something different for each person in her life, all while losing herself in all those different hats.
Ms. Alexander’s story telling is really detailed, and while some might find it tedious, I can’t really say that I found anything that she needed to do away with. IF she were simply telling a love story, she could have done that with one book, like she did with Keys to Jericho. But in order to take this journey with Hadley discovering who Hadley really is, we have to take all these painful steps with her. So would I recommend this book? I would…You do need to read the first three books in this series first, and remember, this is so much more than a romance.
