Andrea Anderson has no clue of the thoughts churning around in the dark and dangerous ex-con’s head as he enters her classroom. In fact, she’s momentarily lost for words. Not in her entire teaching career has she had a student who looked quite like Stu Cross.
We met Stu Cross in King of Hearts, and got to know him a little better in Hearts of Blue, but neither of those glimpses into the man can prepare you for this book. His book along with his co-star Andrea Anderson. She’s everything he shouldn’t be near. Kind, gentle, vulnerable. And Stu is everything she shouldn’t want. Hard, abrasive, broken. But they see something in the other that no one else can see and it helps forge a source of strength in each them.
The characters in this book are amazing. We see Lee and Karla again (Hearts of Blue), Alexis (King of Hearts), and Trevor and Reya (the upcoming Hearts on Air which is slated to be released in 2017) as well as Liam the youngest brother. Stu’s character in the prior two books really makes him out to be one way, and I positively LOVE how the POV characters of those books have their opinions of him and how different they are from how he really is, and it shows how much he’s really changed. I really (and I do mean REALLY) love Alfie and Jamie. And I FLOVED the lil extra som’n som’n. I figured something like that was going to happen…well, not the giving back part, but the other part. Sneaky very very sneaky. Anyways, no more on THAT from me, you’ll have to read it to know what I’m talking about!
Ms. Cosway has a flair for writing characters that feel rich and vibrant and like people that exist in every day life. They’re flawed, haunted, and misunderstood. But their essence, the parts of themselves that might sometimes lose, are inherently good…even if they cuss like a sailor and have a kink or five. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who loves a bad boy with a heart of gold and a seemingly timid woman who has nerves of steel.
L.H. Cosway lives in Dublin, Ireland. Her inspiration to write comes from music. Her favourite things in life include writing stories, vintage clothing, dark cabaret music, food, musical comedy, and of course, books. She thinks that imperfect people are the most interesting kind. They tell the best stories. L.H. is represented by Louise Fury at The Bent Agency.
